GOING BACK TO AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE!!!

Hey y’all!

Hope all is well with you!

A new chapter in my world… just got married to the love of my life, and am moving back to OZ for a while!!! I leave next week!!!!

I’m going to miss Madison, HOWEVER… I can tell you now, I will not miss the snow!!! LOL!!! :)

Nah, truthfully, Madison has been my home for the past 8 years, and I will miss it greatly… especially the Hip-Hop scene. It gave me the opportunity to shine, and grow as an artist, and for that, I will forever be thankful!

Props to all the Madison and Milwaukee artists, deejays, and producers I have collabed with over the years. It has truly been a pleasure doing business with you!!! :)

On another note, I didn’t enter the MAMAs this year. I didn’t think it’d be fair since I won’t actually be in Madison anymore, AND I wanted to give other artists a chance to win the “Urban/R&B Artist of the Year” title that I’ve been hogging for the past 3 years. LMAO! (Just kidding!!!) Good luck to all those deserving and hardworking artists who have been nominated this year!!!

I want to say a special “THANK YOU” to all my supporters who have listened to my music, come to my shows, bought my CDs, and just “represent”. If you’re ever in Australia, just look me up! :)

My music releases will continue, so don’t you worry about that… I am working on my remix album “Know Me – The Remixes“, and will release it later this year, so stay tuned.

Until then, here is a sneak peek of a free track you can download called “Check The Ringtone (Decepticon Remix)“, produced by my boy Memory!!!

Enjoy!

Cancer SUCKS!!!

My band and I did our last US show last November in Wisconsin Rapids. It was for a cancer benefit for a young lady named Lacey (cousin of my drummer Matt Jacoby). Today I found out that she passed away. :( This saddens me so much… it’s not like I knew her personally, but the whole reason for the benefit was to raise money for her cancer treatments. Her death was unexpected, and although you understand that death is a possibility when you’re fighting cancer, everyone thought that she would be on the road to recovery with her treatments.

I am really glad I had a chance to perform at her benefit. There were a lot of people there, and every single one of them did their part to show her the support she needed. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
At least now she is not suffering anymore.
R.I.P. Lacey. (1984 – 2010).

“Check The Ringtone” Remix Competition Winner!!!

Hello everyone!

The Felicia Alima Check The Ringtone Remix Competition ended on September 30th.

We apologize for the delay in announcing the winner, but it took a while for Dieera and I to deliberate on over 40 remix submissions from all around the world.

The decision was very hard because there were so many strong entries (surprisingly a lot of jazz submissions) :) … but thinking along the criteria of creativity, quality, production relevance to the lyrics, and marketability, we collectively decided on the official winner…

The winner of the “Check The RingtoneRemix Competition is dawZ, hailing from the UK!!!

dawZ submitted a five minute-long Garage-style remix of “Check The Ringtone“. He did more than just place the a cappella over an original beat – he chopped it up and “re-mixed” it too! The track is an up-tempo beat, suitable for the club scene, but it also emanates a dark feel, keeping the topic of the song relevant to the music.

David “dawZ” Veress is a Hungarian jazz musician/composer/producer. Growing up, music had been a huge aspect of his life, as he started playing guitar at the age of 5, and reached the finals in the “Metal Hammer Magazine” guitar competition at the age of 16!!! Currently residing in the UK, as an artist, dawZ plays jazz rock/fusion, but also writes music for various R&B performers and commercials. Check out some of his tunes on www.myspace.com/dawzscriticalmovements.
You can also copp DawZ’s new release “DawZ’s Critical Movements” on iTunes.

dawZ’s version of “Check The Ringtone“, will be placed on Felicia Alima’s up-coming album “Know Me – The Remixes“.

We would like to sincerely thank EVERYONE who took their time and creative energy to submit to the competition. We appreciate all your talents, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to all your submissions!

Please keep posted for future remix comps!!!

Thank you!!!

Being professional in the music industry

I would like to give some free advice to anyone who is considering working in the music industry. :)

Whether you’re an artist, manager, producer, promoter, DJ, or whatever title you may want to carry…. you will NOT, I repeat, NOT be successful if you are unprofessional. Point blank. You might be able to swindle your way through several dealings with your behavior, but eventually people will catch on, and realize that you are not worth their time.

Here are a couple tips:
If you are an artist, and you want to work with others, whether it is a collaboration, or an event, be diligent and make it happen. Too much talk becomes tiresome, and your credibility will be questioned. Work with them and complete the project in a decent time-frame, otherwise it looks like you’re sleeping on the job. If something hinders you from completing your portion of the project, let them know what time-frame they can expect it in. This shows that you are still interested, and serious about the project.

If you’re a promoter, make sure you do a good job of promoting the artists and event you are promoting! This means create an impressive promotional campaign, starting with some attractive flyers – (no bootleg, “I have Photoshop, but I’m not a graphic designer” type stuff)… make sure it looks professional, otherwise no one will take it seriously, and you may attract the wrong crowd. This also means, do more than just send out some facebook invites. Anyone can do that. Even if you have 5000 friends, who cares? Do some real work and get some radio ads out, send out press releases to the media, and post flyers/posters in predominate target areas etc.

REALLY IMPORTANT: If you say you will pay an artist for a show, PAY THEM! This is why I make people sign contracts BEFORE committing to a show. A verbal agreement or email exchange isn’t enough anymore. Do not work with anyone who refuses to sign a contract. A contract should be beneficial to all parties. It ensures that the performers receives compensation for their services, and ensures the promoter that they have an act for their event.

These are just a couple of tips to take into account. Of course there are the obvious tips: be diplomatic, be respectful and polite with everyone you meet. You never know who they are, and what connections they may have, and you don’t want to burn bridges before you even know who they are. At the end of the day, treat each other with respect. Music is an art, but there is also the business aspect to it, and if you don’t take care of that portion in a professional manner, then you might as well consider what you are doing a hobby.
