Yesterday, one of the most amazing music legends of our time passed away due to a cardiac arrest. Michael Jackson - who was one artist who definitely influenced me growing up, and even today (just look at my “Know Me” album cover with me rocking the gloves), will be sorely missed. 
From the time he was just 11 years old, as a member of Jackson 5, through to his time as a young adult, as a solo artist with his amazing album releases “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” “Bad,” “Dangerous” and “HIStory,” Michael Jackson made huge marks in the world of music.
Holding the irrefutable title as “The King of Pop”, dictating pop culture, breaking racial barriers, and being the bench-mark for most of the artists of today with his phenomenal performances, creativity, and ever-changing style, his music has been a powerful force, that will certainly live on.
In remembrance of MJ, I would like you to listen to “You Are Not Alone”.
Not to be negative today, but let’s discuss something real quick… I am running another “Know Me - The Remixes” comp for my song “Check The Ringtone” ft. Dieera. By doing that, it means that I am releasing my copy-written material to the world-wide web for people to do what ever they please with it… right? Wrong! You might be able to do something with it for personal use, but if you’re thinking about uploading your remix online, then think again…
This comp is for budding and seasoned producers and DJs wanting to enter my remix comp, to gain placement on my up-coming album. If you’re using my a cappella for the purpose of this remix comp, please come correct!!! You are entering an official competition, so make sure you read the rules of the comp before you decide to enter it. If you read it correctly, it states that a remix may be submitted, but cannot be shared/uploaded online WITHOUT explicit consent from Chantik Soul Entertainment… this means, do not put your version of the remix on your myspace, do not upload it to a torrent web site, or any other web site for that matter… just follow the simple instructions and email it to remix(at)feliciaalima.com. If you’re bringing the fire, then you may possibly win, but then only after the song gets published, will it be released online. I’m letting you know now, if you’ve uploaded a submitted remix of my track online, you will be DISQUALIFIED! I’m not playing this time.
There is something that I have to protect as an artist, and that is my artistic integrity. Think about it… if everyone were to use my a cappella to make remixes and then upload them online, chances are that there will be a quote-on-quote “whack” version floating around. Chantik Soul doesn’t do whack! LOL! But for real, you are entering a contract when you download my a cappella, and click the submit button on the competition form, so don’t play yourself…
Also, PLEASE do not use existing instrumentals, samples or interpolations of other artist’s music… that is NOT original, and it’s against the terms and conditions of the comp, so again, you will be disqualified if you do not use 100% original instrumentation.
This means do not use Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” instrumental and submit it as a remix (even if you did re-produce the tune)! Come on guys!!!

What’s up everyone?!
May was a busy month for me… the MAMA awards, the “Trade” CD release party, and multiple show performances were just a few things on my plate, but work hard, play hard, right? That’s what you gotta do when you’re aiming high!
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who voted for me in the 2009 MAMA (Madison Area Music Awards)!
I walked away with 3 awards this year: “Urban/R&B Performer of the Year“, “Urban/R&B Album of the Year” for my release “Trade”, and “Compilation Album of the Year” for a collaborative effort in “MYPAF - Bratfest 2008 Music”.
Your support was VERY MUCH appreciated. Not only did you support your girl in my musical aspirations, but your donations went to helping put instruments in Madison-area kids hands, so they also THANK YOU!!!
I’d like to shout out to everyone who came to the MAMAs ceremony and then partied with us at our after-party at the Africana Lounge that night too!
On Friday May 22nd, I had a CD release party for ”Trade” ft. Chino XL @ The Frequency in Madison! The event was hosted by Dieera and sponsored by Chantik Soul Entertainment and WORT 89.9FM. We had such an amazing night, with special guest speakers from anti-human trafficking organizations;Marianna Smirnova from Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance (OJA), Darius Alemzadeh from Trafficking Ends With Action (TEA), and Lilada Gee from Women of Worth (WOW). We also had DJ Pain 1 spinning, and poetry performances from 3 amazing poets; Nigel Wade, Evy Gildrie-Voyles, and Caitlin McGahan, before performing an hour set with my band.
Not only were we successful in raising awareness on the subject of human trafficking, we managed to raise money through CD sales for the Coalition Against Trafficking In Women (CATW), which are an non-governmental organization that help combat human trafficking, world-wide!

Also, on Sunday May 24th, Madison’s Fall Guys and I rocked the stage at Brat Fest! I don’t eat Brats, but it didn’t stop me from going to the festival! It was a beautiful sunny day, and the audience was absolutely wonderful and receptive! I moved A LOT of merch that day too, so much love to everyone who came and partied with us!
REMIX COMPETITION
From January to the end of May, we ran a remix competition for my song “Know Me“. We were looking for DJs, producers and remixers, to do their thang on the title track, and submit their best remix for a chance to gain placement on my new album “Know Me - The Remixes“.
We received over 30 hot entries from all around the world (Poland, Canada, England, Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Australia), making the entries extremely diverse, and making it extremely hard to decide on just one winner, but after much deliberation on core aspects such as creativity, mass-appeal, and quality, the winner of the “Know Me” Remix Competition hails from right here in the USA…
CJ Fresh from Maryland is the winner of the “Know Me” Remix Competition, with his 6 and a half minute remix submission! CJ Fresh submitted an infectious remix, passing the bar by cutting-up the a cappella, and honing the track to industry standards!
Clifton J. Stoddart aka “CJ Fresh”, is originally from Kingston, Jamaica, but came to the US when he was just 12 years old. He always loved music growing up, but raised in Baltimore, he became fascinated in the art of mixing, by watching DJs spinning on the “wheels of steel”. Fresh dabbled in the art of mixing at local clubs and on radio for 27 years, but only began producing his own tracks about 2 years ago. Being very particular about his production, along with his desire for perfection, has brought him to the table today as the official “Know Me” remix winner!

The official “Trade” release party was held on Friday May 22nd 2009 @ The Frequency - 121 W. Main St, Madison, WI 53703 @ 9pm.
What an amazing night it was! I would like to thank absolutely EVERYONE who was involved in the event, and those who came out and showed their support!!!
The event was sponsored by Chantik Soul Entertainment and WORT 89.9 FM.
The line-up consisted of a spoken word poetry session by Urban Spoken Word Slam Team’s Nigel Wade, Evy Gildrie-Voyles, and Caitlin McGahan; music by DJ Pain 1 (producer of “Trade”); special guest speakers Darius Alemzadeh from Trafficking Ends With Action, Marianna Smirnova from Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance, and Lilada Gee from Women of Worth; and last, but not least, a live set by my band and I!
We managed to raise some funds for CATW (Coalition Against Trafficking In Women), but this is by no means the end of my campaign!

“Trade” is a song released by Chantik Soul Entertainment artist Felicia Alima, and Machete/Universal Music recording artist Chino XL.
The song was inspired by the movie “Trade”, which is about the human trafficking epidemic that takes place in the world today. Both Felicia and Chino have collaborated on this release in the hopes of spreading awareness that human trafficking does exist, and that you can do something to combat it.
Think about it. Someone’s child…a daughter, a sister, a mother, even a son or a brother can be bought and sold in this world.

All of these questions will be answered this Friday, May 22nd at my “Trade” CD release party @ The Frequency, in Madison WI!
“Trade” is a CD release that Chino XL and I have collaborated on, in the hopes of creating awareness of this horrible epidemic.
Part proceeds of the sale of this CD will be donated to CATW (Coalition Against Trafficking In Women), who are a non-governmental anti-human trafficking organization who’s purpose is to combat human trafficking, all around the world.
Everyone who walks through the door receives a free tradeband (care band), that supports the campaign and helps increase awareness.

Someone who saw and heard the “Trade” promo video on Chino’s facebook page was SO inspired, that she went to CATW in NYC to visit the director!!!!! Now… that is truly creating awareness through our song!!! I’m geeked!!!
It might just be one person, but hey… that is one person more than before… and for her to travel to NYC out of her own accord… that is truly amazing to me. It means that the song can create a catalyst for action, so I am very excited about that!
