The Felicia Alima “Check The Ringtone“ Remix Competition ended on September 30th.

We apologize for the delay in announcing the winner, but it took a while for Dieera and I to deliberate on over 40 remix submissions from all around the world.

The decision was very hard because there were so many strong entries (surprisingly a lot of jazz submissions) … but thinking along the criteria of creativity, quality, production relevance to the lyrics, and marketability, we collectively decided on the official winner…

The winner of the “Check The Ringtone” Remix Competition is dawZ, hailing from the UK!!!

dawZ submitted a five minute-long Garage-style remix of “Check The Ringtone“. He did more than just place the a cappella over an original beat – he chopped it up and “re-mixed” it too! The track is an up-tempo beat, suitable for the club scene, but it also emanates a dark feel, keeping the topic of the song relevant to the music.

David “dawZ” Veress is a Hungarian jazz musician/composer/producer. Growing up, music had been a huge aspect of his life, as he started playing guitar at the age of 5, and reached the finals in the “Metal Hammer Magazine” guitar competition at the age of 16!!! Currently residing in the UK, as an artist, dawZ plays jazz rock/fusion, but also writes music for various R&B performers and commercials. This comp is for budding and seasoned producers and DJs wanting to enter my remix comp, to gain exposure and experience. If you’re using my a cappella for the purpose of this remix comp, please come correct!!! You are entering an official competition, so make sure you read the rules of the comp before you decide to enter it. If you read it correctly, it states that a remix may be submitted, but cannot be shared/uploaded online WITHOUT explicit consent from Chantik Soul Entertainment… this means, do not put your version of the remix on your myspace, do not upload it to a torrent web site, or any other web site for that matter… just follow the simple instructions and email it to remix(at)feliciaalima.com. If you’re bringing the fire, then you may possibly win, but then only after the song gets published, will it be released online. I’m letting you know now, if you’ve uploaded a submitted remix of my track online, you will be DISQUALIFIED! I’m not playing this time.

There is something that I have to protect as an artist, and that is my artistic integrity. Think about it… if everyone were to use my a cappella to make remixes and then upload them online, chances are that there will be a quote-on-quote “whack” version floating around. Chantik Soul doesn’t do whack! LOL! But for real, you are entering a contract when you download my a cappella, and click the submit button on the competition form, so don’t play yourself…

Also, PLEASE do not use existing instrumentals, samples or interpolations of other artist’s music… that is NOT original, and it’s against the terms and conditions of the comp, so again, you will be disqualified if you do not use 100% original instrumentation.
This means do not use Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” instrumental and submit it as a remix (even if you did re-produce the tune)! Come on guys!!!

From January to the end of May, we ran a remix competition for my song “Know Me“. We were looking for DJs, producers and remixers, to do their thang on the title track, and submit their best remix of the track!

We received entries from all around the world (Poland, Canada, England, Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Australia), making the entries extremely diverse, and making it extremely hard to decide on just one winner, but after much deliberation on core aspects such as creativity, mass-appeal, and quality, the winner of the “Know Me” Remix Competition hails from right here in the USA…

CJ Fresh from Maryland is the winner of the “Know Me” Remix Competition, with his 6 and a half minute remix submission! CJ Fresh submitted an infectious remix, passing the bar by cutting-up the a cappella, and honing the track to industry standards!

Clifton J. Stoddart aka “CJ Fresh”, is originally from Kingston, Jamaica, but came to the US when he was just 12 years old. He always loved music growing up, but raised in Baltimore, he became fascinated in the art of mixing, by watching DJs spinning on the “wheels of steel”. Fresh dabbled in the art of mixing at local clubs and on radio for 27 years, but only began producing his own tracks about 2 years ago. Being very particular about his production, along with his desire for perfection, has brought him to the table today as the official “Know Me” remix winner!
